Justice Ginsburg's Anti-Catholic Bigotry

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated to replace an outgoing 'conservative' Justice by President Clinton. She was quoted as saying ‘I went one year and I will never go again, because this sermon was outrageously anti-abortion.’ after attending a Mass specially tailored towards lawyers. The Catholic League issued a statement condemning her Anti-Catholic remarks by stating: "Just imagine how it would go down in the Jewish community if a Catholic Supreme Court Justice were to say that he would never again attend a particular Jewish event because he had to endure a talk that was ‘outrageously pro-abortion.’" And Justice Ginsburg wants to cite international law, she's a piece of work. Tridentine Mass Update

Wow. I actually pulled myself out of bed and arrived about five minutes late for Mass. My buddy Matt was there with my own Missal and I was set to go. Apparently this was a High Mass so the priest prayed privately during portions of the Mass. I learned a lot of Latin and was able to read about 35% of it due to my Spanish background. Anyways, I came away with a better appreciation of the solemnity of Mass. I still think the Novus Ordo Mass in the vernacular can be just as good, but many priests in my Archdiocese take creative license during Mass. Yes, I am returning for a second time this upcoming weekend. I am going to remain at my original parish still because of the many friendships and activities I am involved in (parish life). Christian Methods vs. Muslim Methods

NBC cancelled its Will & Grace episode that blasphemes our Lord Savior Jesus Christ, responding to pressure from Christian groups. Pressure in the form of civilized pressure. A Danish newspaper apologized for an "offensive" caricature of Islam's founder Mohammad, responding to violent demonstrations, threats of death, the burning of the Danish embassy, and other forms of violence. Christianity, in its first 300 years, was banned and its adherents persecuted. Yet through the blood of martyrs, the message of Jesus 'love for one another' spread despite these evils. Islam, it its first 300 years, conquered Christian, Jewish, and pagan nations by the sword. Forcibly converted those by threat of death. Those that didn't convert either had their heads cut off, were sold off into slavery, or had to pay a 'jizya' tax (in other words, protection money) to be allowed to practice their faith or non-Muslim religions. Christianity spread by the word. Islam spread by the sword. Which method represents the religion of peace? What's Wrong With Islam?

A few caricatures about Islam and Muslims the world over are threatening the lives of editors. NBC plans a blasphemous television show mocking Christianity and bloggers raise their concerns. The difference between Christianity and Islam cannot be ever so stark as the above. To top it all off the Saudi Interior Minister is calling on the Vatican to intervene in the Muslim cartoon controversy. How about allowing Christians to build a church in Mecca before you begin crying over your rights as a Muslim being trampled over a cartoon. The Saudi's are a bunch of idiots.

Christian Faith Strengthened By Blood of Martyrs

The blood of the martyrs will fertilize the seeds of faith. Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk says the Christian community in Iraq is becoming "once again a Church of martyrs," after Sunday's car bomb attacks. After presiding at the funeral of 14-year-old Fadi Raad Elias, who died in the blasts, the archbishop described how people packed the Kirkuk (Iraq) cathedral to show "they were even more attached to Christianity than ever before." San Francisco Court Strikes Down Partial Abortion Ban

Evil inspired the justices of the 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco by barring enforcement of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. Calling it unconstitutional, affirming a lower court's "permanent injunction" against it. Soon this day shall pass. (10) Like grapes in the desert, I found Israel; Like the first fruits of the fig tree in its prime, I considered your fathers. When they came to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to the Shame, they became as abhorrent as the thing they loved. (11) The glory of Ephraim flies away like a bird: no birth, no carrying in the womb, no conception. Were they to bear children, I would slay the darlings of their womb. Conde and Bible Update 2-1-06 A.D.

Being a history buff I kind of pick up on the little things when it comes to television documentaries. Is it me, or am I noticing more and more historical documentaries on television referring to historical dates with the suffix C.E. instead of the correct A.D.? C.E. stands for Common Era. B.C.E. Replaces B.C. as well. B.C.E. Refers to Before (the) Common Era. Is this political correctness run amok? I think so. I don't read any of these changes in the historical books I read. Why is that? Anyways, those profs or historical television producers can go bite me. I'll use the more appropriate Anno Domini for my gravestone and only over my dead body! I jumped ahead in my Bible reading and skipped all the way to Revelation. Read it, done. I'm almost done with Exodus, then I have the very interesting (sarcasm here) Leviticus. My laptop is still on the fritz. I don't think I'll see it ever revived again. Later everyone.

Latin Mass, The Comeback

Catholic bloggers, especially the Sarge at The Lair of the Catholic Caveman, have been celebrating and promoting the virtues of the Latin Mass. More correctly called the Tridentine Mass. The Tridentine Mass has begun a small comeback the past few years. With the Washington Times article today about the revival of the Latin language and the Tridentine Mass, this comeback has now taken national (as well as international) proportions. Yes, there have been an article here and there across the country, but when a major daily such as the Washington Times has a feature article in their Culture section, this means it has gained recognition as a national movement towards classical Catholicism. I myself was born and grew up after Vatican II. I am somewhat aware of the elements of the Tridentine Mass but have not experienced it just yet. I have been planning on attending, but that snooze button is oh so sweet to push. You see, here in Houston only one Church, Annunciation Church, offers the Tridentine Mass. And this starts at 6AM and 8AM. For any young adult, sleep is precious, especially on the weekend. But anyways, I am making plans to attend this Sunday and look forward to experiencing the Mass of the 3rd century. From the little knowledge I know, the Tridentine Mass was officially adopted by the Latin Rite at the Council of Trent in the 16th century. In the years after the resurrection of our Lord, the Mass was widely said in Greek, but North African Christians (now eliminated thanks to Mohammad) first started using Latin in their Mass. Eventually west Europeans adopted it in the 3rd century. To read the rest of the article click here.
