Question of the Day

How is the commandment, "You shall not kill," at the heart of the Covenant between God and His chosen people? It is at the heart of the covenant because it expresses the core of God's authority over the human race. Human life is a direct gift of the Creator, since at every conception He must immediately create the immortal soul. Once the fifth commandment is disobeyed, no other moral commandment of God has any validity. That is why abortion undermines the whole moral foundation of human civilization. Taken from the Catechism on The Gospel of Life by Father John A. Hardon, S.J.

Actually, "Thou shalt not kill" is more correctly translated to "Thou shalt not MURDER".

The anti-death penalty crowd often mistranslates that particular Commandment.
