Tony Blair Converting To Catholicism?
Rumors have been rampant in recent years of the Prime Minister of England, Tony Blair, converting to Catholicism. Prime Minister Blair is an Anglican and his wife, Cherie Blair, a Catholic. PM Blair attends Mass with his wife and four children, all Catholic, celebrated by a Franciscan friar renowned for helping convert members of the English establishment to Catholicism.
Now that last sentence I took verbatim from said article, but my personal sources have said that if Mr. Blair does convert, it would occur after he ends his stint as Prime Minister. Thus avoiding a sensation in the infamous British tabloids.
Mr. Blair would become the first English Prime Minister to be Catholic since King Henry VIII succumbed to his lustful passions, ignored the Pope and broke away from our Catholic faith. In favor of divorcing his most Catholic wife for a tartly mistress, Ann Boleyn.
Anyways, Mr. Blair would join a long list of British luminaries to convert to Catholicism which includes G.K. Chesterton, Sir Alec Guinness, Graham Leonard (former Anglican Bishop of London), John Henry Newman, and J.R.R. Tolkein just to name a few.

I'm really interested to see how this plays out in the long run. It would be wonderful for the British PM to become Catholic.
I have been predicting this for a while.
I think deep down Tony Blair is a good man, and is capable of being a very courageous one.
At the same time his term has been marked by further loosening of English abortion laws and the introduction of Civil Unions.
I am sure that Blair is a sincer believer and while it would be nice to see him join the Church ASAP, it is somewhat understandable that he will finnish his term first.
He will probably devout much of his retirment to doing good for the world as a Catholic.
Sadly he will not take the risk now, make the plunge, and use his position of power to have a real impact on England.
It is sad but its hard to judge not being in his shoes. Though I would love nothing more to see the British PM convert to Catholic and then push hard for strict abortion laws if not an all out ban.
Very good news indeed, aand I do pray that it comes to pass.
One note I would like to add is that J.R.R. Tolkien was born Catholic in South Africa. his mother had been a convert to the Faith. This is per his biography by Humphrey Carpenter, and Tom Shippey.
Thanks conde for the great work you do!
The Rabid Traditionalist in Salinas,
Juan
Why would he convert? Isn't he saved as an anglican???
j/k
I am tagging you for the Holy Week Meme. Go here for details http://catholicfire.blogspot.com/2006/04/holy-week-meme.html
God bless,
Jean
Moneybags & FD,
It would be cool, but I agree with you both, if he does convert to Cahtolicism, it would be after he leaves Parliament.
Juan,
Thank you for clarifying that. I get him and C.S. Lewis confused sometimes and lose myself to the facts.
Soundzen,
It matters a lot that Mr. Blair believes in his faith. Especially in the Catholic faith. For if you have the tools at your disposal to improve the world around you, why not use them?
Thanks for reading my blog soundzen!
By the way, if it wasn't for us Catholics, you wouldn't know what to call yourself ;)
God bless, uh, I meant, may the force be with you.
