Pope To Reflect on Celibacy for Priesthood
...but no changes will take place. The calls for readmitting priests who married it seems has caused the Holy Father to call for top Vatican officials to review the Celibacy rule.
The Vatican statement said the meeting would reflect on requests made by married priests in recent years for dispensation from the obligation of celibacy and on requests for readmission to the priestly ministry. The Vatican spokesman, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, later said he did not expect the discussions to consider major changes in the priestly celibacy rule. When ordained, Catholic priests in the Latin church make a promise of celibacy. In Eastern-rite Catholic churches, married men may become priests, but are not allowed to marry after ordination. This is actually taking place to discuss the wayward Archbishop Milingo and his ordination of married priests. The celibacy rule is a side issue and will be discussed because of the scandal caused by Archbishop Milingo. I'm posting this to squash any 'rumors' from coming of this 'reflection'. UPDATED: "The value of the choice of priestly celibacy, according Catholic tradition, has been reaffirmed, and the need for solid human and Christian training, for seminarians as well as already ordained priests, has been reiterated,". This statement by the Vatican again reaffirms priestly celibacy. To read more click here.

More liberal media crap. This is a discussion on how to respond to an extreme discipline involving Millingo and others, nothing more. They are not going to allow non-celibate priests.
I agree.
Hence the posting.
Don't you just love the spin....
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061116/ap_on_re_eu/pope_married_priests
VATICAN CITY - The Vatican on Thursday reaffirmed the value of celibacy for priests after a summit led by Pope Benedict XVI that was spurred by a married African archbishop who has been excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church.
....It was only reaffirmed because this archbishop didn't come to the meeting. Come on please think about this. It's not like the church is suddenly going to change her mind......
......Notice it took them about halfway down the article to find mention what the meeting was about...
"The participants at the reunion were carefully briefed on the requests to receive dispensation from the obligation of celibacy that have been made in recent years and on the possibility of being readmitted to the exercise of the ministry of priests who now meet the conditions required by the church," the statement said.
Lombardi said that those "conditions" could refer to such situations, say, of a married priest who is now a widower and wants to be readmitted to the exercise of his priestly functions.
He said the individual requests that were covered in the summit will now likely be examined
It's almost predictable to what the MSM wants to believe and report.
