USCCB Tip Toes Around Capital Sin for Homosexually Inclined

According to the Associate Press the UCSSB has agreed to new guidelines that says "it is not a sin to be attracted to someone of the same gender only to act on those feelings."

A very bold statement by the USCCB. What about participating in 'Gay Pride' parades? What about being proactive in the 'Gay Rights' movement? The USCCB is only following Catholic teaching in any regards. It is not a sin to be attracted of someone of the same gender.

St. Thomas Aquinas said that "Sin is nothing else than a morally bad act". The sin primarily consists in a voluntary act repugnant to the order of right reason. The act passes, but the soul of the sinner remains stained, deprived of grace, in a state of sin, until the disturbance of order has been restored by penance. This state is called habitual sin, macula peccati. reatus culpa. Nice to see that no spinal implant will be occurring over in Baltimore this week while the USCCB tiptoes carefully around the sensitive issue of homosexuality. To read further on the USCCB's declaration that same sex attraction is not a sin click here. UPDATED: Attraction to someone of the same gender is not a sin. I added two sentences to this posting because it gave the general impression that it is a sin, which is incorrect. Remember that we are all sinners and need to treat each other charitably as Jesus taught us to.

Same-sex attraction in itself is not sinful. It is a disordered inclination, but someone who has it and does not give into it has not committed a sin. To say though that it was not disordered or to celebrate the disorder is sinful.

I have to agree with Jeff on this one. The churches position is that being gay is not the problem but the actions are. This is why if you are gay and not participating in homosexual relationship then you are free to accept the sacraments. Those who are gay are called to be chaste just like any other single person. As long as the have confessed like anyone else to prior communion. That is nothing new . The problem with the Bishops is that they have new guidelines with allowing gay couples to baptize their children. To me that is the problem because it is given a kind of backdoor permission to gay couples that being in a sinful relationship is okay because they church will still let you be in communion.

Jeff & Rebecca,

I agree with both of you.

I think I need to rewrite my posting. It was originally an explanation of why the USCCB is wrong, but after careful reading the USCCB is correct.

I only wanted to point out how weak the overall guidelines are but forgot to edit my original posting coherently to reflect my agreement with the USCCB.

You guys are sharp!

Thank you but i am still upset that the bishops are even allowing active homosexual couples to have their childern baptized. After all you should not baptize someone known that their "parents" can not raise them in the faith correctly since they are in a sinful relationship. They could have shown some real backbone but they bent to "please" society pressure. We should all have to follow the same exceptions.

The CCC also states "Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection." This reads to me that those with SSA are called to actively address their disorder. The Church is placing a moral imperative on those individuals to change and not sit back pssively, accepting their condition. Like all of us, we must recognize our sins, failures, shortcomings and disorders, and strive for "Christian perfection."

Gravey,

Thanks for adding to the discussion. We are all called to chastity.
