NFL Expansion: The Vatican Crusaders

Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, wants to form a football team called the Crusaders and apply for entry into the National Football League. OK, just kidding. The good Cardinal is a huge football fan, the international variety- not American, and wants to form a club to represent the Vatican in Italy's top soccer league, Serie A.
"I do not preclude the possibility that the Vatican, in the future, could put together a football team of great value, that could play on the same level as Roma, Inter Milan and Sampdoria," he said. In a football league that has been mired in corruption and controversy, this is perhaps a timely intervention. Any doubts about the skills at the Vatican's disposal could be answered by some very talented Brazilians studying to become priests at the Church's universities, seminaries and youth clubs. And if football's success is dependent on money and supporters, then the Vatican is unlikely to struggle.
Imagine a soccer team wearing gold and white uniforms! To read more click here. UPDATE: Jeff over at Curt Jester had the same posting, but much more humorous. For his posting click here. ANOTHER UPDATE: BBC reports that a senior Roman Catholic cardinal has quashed media speculation that the Vatican might form a team to play in Italy's top football league. For the story click here.
