The Hatred of Christianity by Liberals
Reconstructing the Temple in the 21st Century
Which is a pretty bad idea if you want to invoke the wrath of God. The first Temple was built in 996 B.C. and destroyed in 587 B.C. by Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon to crush the Jewish revolt. The second Temple was built in 530 B.C. and destroyed again by Emperor Titus (no relation) in A.D. 70 to crush another Jewish revolt. Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, "You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?" And Jesus answered them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, `I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. --Holy Gospel of St. Matthew 24:1-6
Though Alypius pushed the work forward energetically and though he was assisted by the governor of the province, frightful balls of fire kept bursting forth near the foundations of the temple and made it impossible for the workmen to approach the place, and some were even burned to death. And since the elements persistently drove them back, Julian gave up the attempt.

Why Liberal Christianity is in Decline
Sadly many of these same types of liberals infect our Catholic faith. Fortunately we have the Holy Spirit guiding the righteous into orthodoxy while the heterodoxical priests and bishops fall into heresy and indignity. For the article click here. All those liberal strands of Christianity are paying the price for their devil's bargain with secularism in vastly diminished numbers, as members figure out that when a religion lets them do whatever they want, one of the things they don't want to do is go to church on Sunday. The mainline denominations, which once represented 40% of US Protestants, now represent only 12%: 17 million out of 135 million. To put it bluntly, liberal Christianity is in meltdown. The election of Jefferts Schori, a theological liberal who prayed to a female Jesus at last summer's bishops' convention, together with the bishops' vote not to endorse the bedrock Christian proposition that Jesus is Lord, proved to be the last straw for many Episcopalians who believe that the essence of their Anglican faith isn't "tension" but fidelity to the Bible and the Christian creeds.
In fact, those conservative Northern Virginia churches that split off on Sunday may be few in number, but they represent an island of vibrancy in an otherwise moribund denomination. They are large, prosperous, highly educated congregations in large, prosperous, highly-educated Washington, DC, suburbs: Fairfax, Falls Church, Sterling, Woodbridge. They join four other Northern Virginia churches that have similarly severed their ties with the Episcopal Church, and two more churches are likely to schedule similar votes in January. These 14 churches, together with a 15th that had been expected to announce a vote on Sunday but did not, constitute only 7% of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia's 197 parishes, but represent 11% of its baptised membership of about 90,000 and 18% of its average Sunday attendance of 32,000. Live people instead of dead people pay for their upkeep. What happened in Virginia is a sign of growing awareness among conservative Christians that they are not - contrary to the way they have been painted by the liberal denominations and their sympathetic friends in the liberal media - a theologically backward, inevitably diminishing minority of dissenters from the enlightened Christian mainstream. ...For years the wealth, historic prestige, and trendy theology of the Episcopal Church have secured it outsize press attention that has obscured its marginal status in worldwide Anglicanism and American Protestantism. The election of Jefferts Schori as presiding bishop and the pomp surrounding her installation at the National Cathedral in Washington seemed designed as displays of liberal triumphalism.
Joel Osteen's Million$$$
The Leader of Lakewood, the High-Presbyter of Health and Wealth sermons, the Jolly Joel Osteen can now add the title of the Master of Millions. Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church has signed a multi-million dollar book deal with Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
According to the Houston Chronicle,
Joel Osteen is one rich Christian. I hope he contributes the majority of his millions, if not all, to the poor, starving, and helpless of God's children here in Houston. God will judge according to Joes Osteen's deeds. For if Joel Osteen sees fit to spend his time skiing in the most swank resorts then God judges accordingly while His poor children roam the streets Houston. As the Bible says: Romans 2:6-8, "For He will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are factious and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury." 2 Corinthians 11:15, "So it is not strange if His servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds." 1 Peter 1:17, "And if you invoke as Father Him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile." Joel Osteen has done good as far as inspiring the Christians of Houston, but I don't see my parish priest spending his money on ski trips to Colorado. In fact, the religious among us, that's priests to non-Catholics, take a vow of poverty on receiving their Holy Orders. Among these, they take a vow of celibacy and poverty. Thus they can focus all of their attention to serving God almighty. God bless Joel Osteen. God has certainly showered him with many gifts and I am not one to criticize. I just want to know, being that Joel Osteen is the defacto leader of non-denominational Christians, because in my Catholic faith we are all called to serve others. I'm just curious how Joel Osteen intends to serve his 'flock' with the millions he's making. I know my parish priest's circumstances and we, his parishioners, are blessed to have a man of God serve us. How is Joel Osteen serving his flock? (H/T Isolated Desolation) For more on this article click here."The contract does not adhere to the usual book deal with the author receiving an advance on future royalties. The royalty rate is 15 percent of the cover price of each book sold. Rather, the contract is known in the industry as a co-publishing agreement, where the author receives a smaller advance - perhaps $1 million to $2 million - but is then entitled to receive 50 percent of the publisher's profits."
Christianity Lite
"I'm spiritual, but not religious is a common refrain heard today..."
Riiiight.
"...why people feel that Christianity is lacking as a source of religious meaning and transcendence."
"This Christian-lite church is good at living the zeitgeist, of sleeping the sleep of secular man; but when a person wakes up and is hungry for real meat and thirsty for real drink, Christian-lite doesn't satisfy..."
Interesting article on those that claim to be 'spiritual' but not 'religious'. An excellent example of this, even within Christianity itself, is the Lakewood mega-church here in Houston, Texas. The pastor is Joel Osteen and Victoria Osteen. Listening to Joel Osteen is like listening to Cardinal Mahony (of L.A.) or any number of priests here in the Houston-Galveston Archdiocese where they fail to mention 'prayer', the 'Bible', or anything 'Christian', except for 'feel-good' ministrations!
God bless Joel Osteens heart, but I don't believe he has even read the Bible through or understand many of it's theological underpinnings. He speaks like a politician, always avoiding the 'meat-and-potatoes' and charging head-strong into fluffy cakes and cotton speeches.
