The Newest Political Blog, American Catholic

The American Catholic blog is the blogosphere's newest entry in the political and cultural dialogue of American. Twelve faithful Christians have joined together to participate in the American experiment by actively and positively engaging in the public square for the betterment of the common good. You say there are already a few Catholic blogs out there that does that? Yes, but what distinguishes us from all the rest is that we will provide thoughtful postings with charity on a daily basis. With fidelity to Holy Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium, we hope to positively enhance the dialogue on politics and culture. What about the separation of Church and state? It behooves us to help create a more perfect union, as per the preamble of the constitution. What better way than to bring the teachings of Jesus for the betterment of America? We do not want a theocratic state. What we want is a civilization of charity for our fellow man. Whom better than Jesus to provide the framework for this! Chris Blosser, Chris Burgwald, Walter Cole, Dr. David Curp, myself, Ryan Harkins, Brendan Hodge, Donald R. Mclarey, Peter Park, Joe Potillor, Zach C., and Rusty Tisdale are the faithful Christians serving our Catholic Church by responding to the Second Vatican Council's call for positive engagement to the world. We hope you take the time to visit the blogosphere's newest member, American Catholic. For American Catholic click here.

Media's Double Standard

The liberal media likes to say how fair and just they all sound as they report the news. Spouting how tolerant they are. Waxing intellectually about how open-minded they are. Self-professing how compassionate they are. While telling us to pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. Well their façade has always been known to a few. That has changed since the striking down of the (un)Fairness Doctrine, the dawning of the Internet Age, and the ascendancy of Fox News. The curtain has been drawn ever wider to show that man behind the curtain as intolerant, close-minded, and hatefull the mainstream media is. The public has begun to see the filth behind the stench of what passes for “news” in the mainstream media. No longer do ordinary Americans have to put up with NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and NPR. Talk radio, Fox News, and bloggers have begun leveling the playing field, though it is still holistically unbalanced. We now know liberals, progressives, and most Democrats are very intolerant to those with different viewpoints, lifestyles, and way of life. This intolerance shows itself mostly in their obsessive hatred with Christians. For example, in Plantation Key, Florida, a case was brought against “two members of The Gideons International who were arrested while attempting to distribute Bibles on a public sidewalk outside Key Largo School.” The judge dismissed the case only after the Alliance Defense Fund stepped in to protect these Gideon’s. Well you may say this is an aberration. I say that I doubt Muslims would be in court for distributing Koran’s outside a school. So to show how (in)sensitive liberals are to those that have faith, a student at Pace University has been charged with the crime of throwing the Koran down the toilet. If this is they way liberal’s show their open mindedness then we need to call it for what it is, a double standard. Why the double standard? Is it because when liberals put a cross in a jar of urine and call it art; the only reaction us Christians do is to protest in a civilized manner? Yet when a cartoon of Mohammad is satirized the New York Times cowers like the hypocrites they are by proclaiming their “sensitivity” to Islam. What happened to this “sensitivity” to Christianity? Why are people like Brian Williams and Katie Couric (symbolically speaking) shills for Islam yet cowards when it comes to calling a spade a spade? This goes in their open hatred towards Christianity. For example, after the hugely successful “The Passion of the Christ”, you would have thought Hollywood to take note of the potential huge Christian audience yearning for Christian based films. Well instead they have developed garbage such as “The Ten” which opens tomorrow (August 3). Here are a few excerpts:
1. “[Gretchen] Mol stars as a 35-year-old virgin who gets deflowered---in lusty romance novel fashion on a trip to Mexico. Her hunky lover boy’s name? Jesus Christ.” [philly.com] 2. “Mol plays a mousy librarian…who travels alone to Mexico and has a wildly sexual fling with a local handyman named Jesus H. Christ (Justin Theroux in long hair and beard).” [AP] 3. “They’re almost gleeful in their crudity; grinning ever-wider as they seem to ask the audience just who this bit of blasphemy is hurting.” [eflimcritic.com] 4. “‘The Ten’ is comprised of 10 blasphemous and hysterical stories that put the insanity back in Christianity.” [Roger Ebert] 5. “(By the way, I did mention that conservative Christians may find this film offensive?)” [independentcritics.com]
Is this fair? Is this just? Is it tolerant to be intolerant to Christians? Is it open-minded to prosecute Christians for distributing the Bible? Is it sensitive to demean Christianity? If this is what passes for intellectual sophistication then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. This intellectual sophistication has created the newfound constitutional law of “separation of church and state”. Where the ACLU uses this as a license to deconstruct and tear down the Christian heritage of America, but won’t blink an eye when the University of Michigan uses student monies to build separate foot baths for Muslim men and women! How much longer are liberals going to run around yelling and screaming of a Biblical theocracy in America and openly persecuting Christians, yet their hypocrisy continues to unveil themselves with stories of Muslim gangs raping Christians, assaulting Christians, and invading Christian homes in Nashville, Tennessee. Not only does the mainstream media fail to report what is happening to Christians in Iraq, but the very same thing is occurring in America. In the Bible Belt no less and not a whimper is heard of the fore mentioned news. And when it is told, they hide behind their flawed political correctness mantra of not “offending” anyone (as long as they are Christians then its ok) by referring to these gangs as “Kurdish”. Pathetic. I call this a shallow intellect and flawed thinking. Why don’t we call out the Brian William’s and Katie Couric’s for what they report... and that is a double standard.

Homosexual Marriage Momentum?

...if you’re a liberal still recovering from your pot-smoking days from the 60s you probably think this is true.

The Detroit News wrote an article by Deb Price about how 'gay marriage' is gaining momentum, in their (distorted) point of view.

An elderly Massachusetts woman felt her opposition to gay marriage melt away after "this lovely couple" moved in next door with their children.

Her change of heart, recounted by the Boston Globe, happened because she came to see the gay men -- among the nearly 10,000 gay couples who've wed in her state since 2004 -- as the neighbors eager to lend a hand.

I had a “nice” neighbor once who was an alcoholic drug dealer. He was there to lend a hand whenever I needed it. He also was a drug dealer with a lot of company going in and out of his house at odd hours of the day. Plus not to mention his ‘friends’ were always staggering TO his house to drink, they were already hammered!

Do I condone their behavior because they were “nice”, no I do not? He has serious disorders and I will not enable him by validating a lifestyle that is morally wrong.

Why then would you want to validate people with homosexual disorders?

"If they can't be married in Massachusetts, they're going to leave -- and then who would help me with my lawn?" she asked, urging her state lawmaker to also change and protect gay couples' right to marry by blocking a referendum designed to abolish that right. That lawmaker did change.

So if my drug dealing alcoholic neighbor were to leave, would I lament the fact that my lawn was no longer going to be mowed? Where do they get this stuff*?

*stuff; referring to the liberal doctrine of MSU*, or, Make Stuff Up™, when unable to push a morally deprived agenda, ie, gay militant lobby for same sex marriage, a precursor to NAMBLA following afterward for legalization of pedophilia, soon to be followed by NAMALA (North American Man-Animal Love Association), you make stuff up like it’s ok to have sex with people of the same gender. Damn the statistics that 95% of all people who are afflicted with AIDS got it from homosexual sex, not to mention that it is an abomination from God.

And so did others, leading to a stunning victory for equality: On June 14, opponents of gay marriage failed to clear a very low hurdle. To put the anti-gay measure on the state's 2008 ballot, they needed just 25 percent of the legislature. They fell 5 votes short.

…failed to clear a ‘very low hurdle’. I guess they forgot to mention that if it were put to a referendum; ‘same-sex’ marriage would have been soundly defeated. So they basically took away the franchise to vote away from the citizens of Massachusetts.

It’s more like a stunning victory for absolutism and tyranny.

The proposal was crushed, 151-45, after Gov. Deval Patrick weighed in against it. Afterward, he declared, "In Massachusetts today, the freedom to marry is secure." Now, a ban couldn't go to voters until 2012, after five more years of lovely married gay couples mowing elderly neighbors' lawns.

Again, I wouldn’t allow my drug dealing alcoholic neighbor to mow my lawn.

June 2007 is the month gay marriage proved it won't always be a "hot button." Massachusetts demonstrated its comfort.

Just days later, the state Assembly in neighboring New York embraced allowing gays to marry, 85-61.

That was the fourth time a state legislative body has voted to open marriage to gay couples. California has done so three times: Nearly two years ago, the Senate and Assembly passed it, but Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed. The Assembly passed it again on June 5 by 42-34.

Failing to mention that the people haven’t voted in a referendum for any of these. Hey, you want to the US Congress to vote for amnesty against the wishes of a substantial majority of the electorate? Why then are the state legislators so afraid to bring the vote to the people? Why is the gay militant lobby so happy to prevent the ordinary citizen to vote on such a “non-hot button” issue?

Gay leaders find success has key ingredients: Build a statewide coalition that includes clergy, unions and business.

Basically get fringe elements from all elements of society and label them as ‘representative of the people’.

Plus, get gay couples and their allies to describe the pain marriage discrimination causes.

Marriage discrimination? If you define marriage as that between a man and a woman, that has been defined as such for ooohhh, since the dawn of time, then the argument is a non sequitur. Can you say ‘gay subsidiarity’?

Also, a governor's support is hugely helpful. Patrick and New York's Eliot Spitzer both won landslides last November as vocal advocates of gay marriage.

"What politicians are realizing is that the smart money is betting on the future, and the fact that young people support this and that the American people are increasingly open to it," says Evan Wolfson, executive director of Freedom to Marry.

If you define denying the people to vote on referendums as “support” and “increasingly open to it”, so be it. It seems as if soviet style democracy is the only way the gay militant lobby is able to push their amoral agenda.

Support for gay marriage is inching toward a majority -- to 46 percent in the national Gallup poll released May 26. Support is overwhelming -- 62 percent -- among voters under 35.

I can sight similar statistics that says otherwise. It seems the militant gay lobby subscribes to MSU™. Look, 99% of my friends are geniuses! See how easy that is?

Equality has friends of all ages, of course. On June 12, the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Loving v. Virginia ruling that swept away laws against interracial marriage, Mildred Loving spoke up for gay marriage.

Again, when did “marriage between a man and a woman” ever said otherwise? In Sodom? In Gomorrah? Sorry, I meant, San Francisco and New York.

Mrs. Loving, a black woman now in her late 60s, said the case she and her white husband Richard won "can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and loving, are all about."

As well as for pedophilia and bestiality. Oh, can I mention the “slippery slope” theory now?

Freedoms are secured one court case at a time, one legislature at a time, one lawn at a time. That truly is the American way.

As long as the people aren’t allowed to vote, then it is the (gay) American way.

Gay Pride Reporting Is Wretched

Apparently I can call myself a heterosexual that represents "Heterosexuals of America" with a group membership of 'one' and march in the Gay Pride parade proclaiming that since my group represents heterosexuals in America, that America 'approves' of their political agenda and get quoted on the front page of every newspaper in America that gives me gravitas to the public saying it's 'ok'. Or I could just convert to Reformed Judaism, study the Talmud for several weeks, have de facto gravitas by simply stating a 'politically correct' position of accepting a disordered lifestyle. Either effort seems to be enough for most liberal leaning newspapers, such as the Houston Chronicle, to quote 'any' sort of religious leader and mislead the public by giving the impression that religious leaders across the country approve of this disordered lifestyle. When in fact they don't. You wonder why these newspapers won't name which organizations these so-called 'religious leaders' represent, (with the exception of 'Dignity')? They don't because the public would notice that every one of these 'religious leaders' represents the fringe, or nearly defunct group of extremists, in their respective faith, such as 'Dignity', that carry little or zero support and/or gravitas. What a gross abuse of journalistic reporting. Our fellow brothers and sisters that suffer from the disorder same sex attraction need our love and fraternal correction, not the continued effort to enable someone to sin more and continue in a most dangerous lifestyle. To enable those who suffer from this contributes to a hazardous and dangerous lifestyle that destroys family relationships, ostracizes children, contributes to the AIDS epidemic, and is prone to violence within their own social circles due to serial relationships that create unstable and unhealthy lives? An analogy to this is why would I want to participate in a Drunk Pride parade and support alcoholics in their lifestyle of drinking themselves to death? Why would I want to support someone who passes out to fall asleep? Who will have the strong possibility of dieing from their abusive and detrimental behavior of drinking? That because of their lifestyle are unable to keep long-term relationships, keep a stable job, and probably die from cirrhosis? I'm done. For the Houston Chronicle post on religious approval of homosexuality click here. To read on the Church's teachings on homosexuality click here.

Founders Spin- CA says no to kin- and let's hope to God Thompson's in!

Tito is the real master of blogging the news, and I love how he is like a one man "Reader's Digest," bringing articles of Catholic interest to light. He is the news guy, I am the history guy, the separation of powers is clear, and I am not trying to beat him at his own game! I did however run into some things that I wanted to comment on a bit and you all should read. Of course, to some, this collection of articles may seem very hodge-podge, but I am sure most readers know full well how this is all linked. One of the most important things you can do, as an American, as a Catholic, as either, or both, is know your history! Don't let secular progressive loons bully you into being ashamed of our heroes. The Crusaders put their lives on the line to defend the Christians in the Holy Land, the Minutemen put their lives on the line so their children would not have to submit to tyranny. If these men of times past could stand up to such formidble foes, what excuse do way have showing fear in the face of legions of aging hippies and their ilk? Toledo Blade Editorialist Wants Forcible Dis-Arming of America's Citizenry The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm. -Thanks for getting the word out on this Jay, maybe I ought to buy another World War II rifle one of these days. I seem to recall that even John Kerry had to brandish a gun in Ohio for a photo opp, I have a feeling the good folks there would not stand for this Stalanistic program which, thankfully, is just a crazy fiction at this point. Still, the fact that any American is even saying this must have the heroes of '76 spinning in their graves!
***
Ban on 'mom' and 'dad' considered – again California agenda would require K-12 'gay' indoctrination Cheerleading and sports teams would have to be gender-neutral. Prom kings and queens would be banned, or if featured, would have to be gender neutral so that the king could be female and the queen male. Gender-neutral bathrooms could be required for those confused about their gender identity. A male who believes he really is female would be allowed into the women's restroom, and a woman believing herself a male would be allowed into a men's room. Even scientific information, such has statistics showing AIDS rates in the homosexual community, could be banned. _ -Hey wait! I thought it was Galileo torturing Catholics and Scopes oppressing Protestants who were trying to suppress science, what gives? Anyway, this CA stuff all seems whacky, but, I am familiar with some universities having "HERstory" events since they apparently have no idea of the etymology of the word "History." Also, efforts to suppress the use of B.C. and A.D. in history texts are on the verge of success. This may be a surprise to you folks reading this, but unless colleges have a major common sense wake up call, you aren't going to see B.C. and A.D. anymore. I am one of the few history students who hasn't gone over to the "new" system, C.E. and B.C.E. (Common Era and Before Common Era.) Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I usually don't trust Governor Arnold to do the right thing, but in this case, I think he'll whip the veto pen out.

Back to Backbone-History is fundamental This would be a good place to quote an important British writer, George Orwell, who wrote, “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” Even in America, our children are often taught a watered down, inoffensive, and culturally sensitive version of events ranging from the Crusades to the battle at the Alamo. -Thank you Fred Thompson, yes that's rumored '08 candidate Fred Thompson. Now as I have stated before, my heart is with Brownback, as is my primary vote. However, Thompson is an acceptable alternative, and my second favorite man in the Republican field. Read this brief column by him, Fred gets it. He doesn't apologize for the Alamo or the Crusades, he is candid in a way McCain, Romney, and Rudy would never even care to be. Anyway, Thompson-Brownback ticket anybody? Maybe they can even snag Colbert as press secertary, and if they are real lucky, Jay Anderson for Attorney General?
