Liberation Theology

Easter Sunday, The Vatican, April 6, 1980, 9:00 pm at St. Peter's Square:
A group of young pilgrims were singing songs and chanting; requesting the presence of Pope John Paul II. To their surprise they were led to the St. Damaso Courtyard inside the Vatican through the gates by the Vatican Gendarmes.
Inside the St. Damaso Courtyard these young pilgrims lingered for a few minutes when to their surprise Pope John Paul II came into their presence and began a lively dialogue. When a young pilgrim of 19 years of age by the name of Tim asked his Holiness about his thoughts on the Sacrament of Penance.
His Holiness responded:
The Sacrament of Penance is the sacrament par excellence! When our Lord and Savior died on the cross he died for OUR sins. When we confess our sins to God we are cleansing ourselves in order to be reconciled to God. At admitting our sins and following the absolution of those sins to our confessor, we are reconciled to God. THAT IS LIBERATION THEOLOGY!
