Texas Catholic Bishops on Prop 2

A statement by the Catholic Bishops of Texas on Proposition 2 has been released via their website. They are reminding us as Catholics that we uphold the conviction that marriage is a lifelong union between one man and one woman. We as Catholics need to keep this Holy Sacrament sacred for the benefit of humankind in fulfillment of Jesus' teachings. The following are excerpts of their statement. Click here for the complete statement. Massachusetts Catholic Bishops have a similar drive; to read the article click on this. "marriage is a lifelong union between one man and one woman. This relationship is unique among creation in so far as it is established by God. This fundamental truth ought to be recognized as such in law." "The Church's teaching on this matter is clear." "Our defense of marriage must focus primarily on the fundamental importance of marriage for children, families and society, not on other matters." "We hope and pray for Texans to not only uphold the covenant that God created, but to treat all human beings with the dignity that is due to each."
