Pope Benedict XVI Publicly Apologizes in Person

Our Pope Benedict XVI publicly issued an apology at Castel Gandolfo this morning.
"At this time I wish also to add that I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims,"
Christian charity as practiced by the vicar of Christ. And now for the Muslim response.

What many media outlets are de-emphasizing is that Pope Benedict XVI is not apologizing for his remarks. He is apologizing for the fact that these remarks are seen as offensive. By speaking out against jihad as a moral philosophy he has quite rightly set himself against the very voices that decry his speech as "fascism." His apology shows his meekness and only shames his enemies more. As a Protestant I don't agree with much of his doctrine, but as an intellectual, I must applaud this man for speaking his mind clearly against an enemy that preaches deceit and violence.
