Dispensation for St. Patrick's Day by Archbishop DiNardo

His Excellency, Archbishop Daniel N. DiNardo, has granted a dispensation in observance of St. Patrick's Day for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. This means that we as Catholics are allowed to eat meat on Friday for this holy day. Though we must still abstain from eating meat by choosing another day that is suggested by his Excellency as either Thursday, March 16 or Saturday, March 18. St. Patrick himself would have followed his Archbishop's orders, so we as the laity should still abstain from meat, whether we choose St. Patrick's day or the days before or after this said holy day. In the Catholic Church, a dispensation is an act whereby in a particular case a lawful superior, such as his Excellency Archbishop DiNardo, grants relaxation from an existing law.
